Joliet Powerplant HP Feedwater Heater Replacements & Rigging Systems

This specialty rigging project required removal and replacement of four 130 ton feedwater heaters located 7 stories above grade in an operating powerplant. Removal was accomplished with the use of magnesium torches and the installation rigging scheme was comprised of an 8-part 1 ¼” steel wire rope, double-drum hoist, overhead trolley, sleds, and the Overhead Turbine crane. The system was so complicated that it was sequenced & modeled prior to start of all work for physical reference during the project. All operations were confined to off shifts except when the heaters were in the air.
